How to Install H&R Block Software on Windows
- Open the purchase confirmation email and click the Download Program link to start the H&R Block download.
- Close all open applications.
- Open the downloaded file. If you can’t find the download file, see the Finding Your Downloaded File section below.
- Follow the instructions in the installation wizard to complete the installation. We recommend installing to the default location.

Finding Your Downloaded File

I used to use Turbo Tax because it was the best value. Also, H&R Block was much more clunky to use. But in recent years, H&R Block has improved its usability and now is as good, or even a little better, than Turbo Tax. And the Premium & Business downloadable desktop software, which I need because I prepare 15 – 20 returns per year, including several self-employed relatives, is a much better deal with H&R Block than the comparable Turbo Tax software.
